Laura Creedle Books in Order

Laura Creedle is a young adult novelist based in Austin, Texas. They describe themself as dyslexic, ADHD, and neurodivergent, experiences that help shape their interest in characters who do not fit easy expectations.

Before turning to young adult fiction, Creedle wrote literary short stories and poems. Graduate school was the point when they began to imagine writing for teen readers, bringing a sharper focus to the messy, funny, frightening parts of growing up.

The route to publication was not quick.

Creedle queried more than ninety agents before a chance connected to Pitch Wars gave their manuscript another path forward. Mentor Marty Mayberry offered feedback on the romance in the story, and Creedle eventually reached the contest's agent round, where they received several offers of representation.

Their debut, The Love Letters of Abelard and Lily, arrived in 2017. It follows Lily, a teen with ADHD, and Abelard, a boy whose way of processing the world differs from hers. Detention, old love letters, family pressure, and the awkward work of trusting another person give the book both its humor and its ache. In 2018, it received the Writers’ League of Texas Book Award in the middle grade and young adult category.

Creedle writes about teens who are often misunderstood before anyone has bothered to listen to them.

With The Deep Well, Creedle moved into young adult horror. The novel centers on April Fischer, who survived a childhood massacre linked to a superdeep borehole and has spent years living beneath the weight of rumors, a horror movie, and a cult's attention. It combines a missing-father mystery with an urban legend, a looming birthday, and the uneasy question of whether the story people tell about April is true.

Their next novel, The Girl in Green, is set at an isolated West Virginia school with a dark past. A missing student, old institutional secrets, and a local legend pull a new scholarship student into a much more dangerous place than she expected. It continues Creedle's move toward unnerving settings and young people trying to uncover what adults have buried.

Across the books, connection matters as much as plot. Romance can start with a shared text. Friendship can be the person who stays when everyone else has chosen a rumor. Fear can grow from being watched, labeled, or made into a story by people who do not know the whole truth.

Creedle's author notes also point to a fondness for horror movies and pinball. They live in Austin with their husband and a rescued cat named Hellman.

That mix of warmth, unease, and offbeat humor runs through their work.
