Lantern in the Window is a shared historical-romance series set in Lantern, Texas, after the Civil War. Lynn Donovan wrote Lantern of Patience, Lantern of Grace, Lantern of Hope, and Lantern of Honor, while other authors contributed connected stories to the town.

The title comes from the old image of a lantern left burning for someone who has not returned. That promise matters in this setting, where the war has left many women waiting, grieving, or trying to build a life after everything changed.

In Lantern of Patience, Patience Muldoon has kept faith with the husband who went to war and never came back. She is also Lantern's sheriff, a role that puts her directly at odds with Caleb Cantwell, a wounded former lawman who arrives believing the job should be his.
