Series background & context
Kings & Villains is one of the central routes into Jagger Cole’s connected dark romance world. The series moves through criminal empires, old debts, dangerous marriages, and men who rule from penthouses, clubs, back rooms, and shadows.
The books include standalones as well as linked duets. Dark Kingdom works as a full standalone about Adrian Cross, a London underworld kingpin, and the woman who once ran from him. The Cinder and Hunted stories are duets, so those pairs should be read in order.
Power is the engine here.
The series often begins with a deal that looks practical on paper: protection, revenge, a debt, a marriage, a way to survive. Then the emotional cost turns out to be much higher. Characters try to keep control, but the romance keeps slipping through the cracks.
If you want the broadest start, begin with Dark Kingdom. If you prefer a duet, read Burned Cinder before Empire of Ash, or The Hunter King before The Hunted Queen.
