Author bio

Kasie West grew up in California in a family that moved with the military before settling in the Central Valley. As a teen she devoured any book she could find, from school reading lists to fantasy paperbacks and dog eared romance novels borrowed from her parents.

She went to Fresno State University intending to become a teacher and graduated with a degree in elementary education, still thinking of herself mainly as a lifelong reader rather than a future author. After college she married, started a family, and stayed in Central California, juggling everyday life with four kids and the relentless summer heat.

Writing did not show up in a serious way until she was thirty.

At that point she had an idea for a story she could not shake, opened a blank document, and taught herself how to write a novel one page at a time. The early manuscripts stayed on an old laptop as practice, but the process hooked her. Eventually she wrote Pivot Point, a paranormal story about a girl who can see down two possible futures, and that manuscript became her first published book in 2013.

Not long after, West leaned into contemporary romance, the type of story she most loved to read. Books like The Distance Between Us, On the Fence, The Fill-In Boyfriend, and P.S. I Like You built a devoted audience for their quick banter, awkward first crushes, and families that feel noisy and real instead of perfect on the page.

Her later young adult novels keep returning to that mix of humor and heart. Whether she is locking two near strangers in a library in By Your Side, dropping a lottery win into the life of a stressed out student in Lucky in Love, sending characters to host an advice podcast in Listen to Your Heart, or following summer romances in Sunkissed and Places We've Never Been, she writes about teens figuring out who they are while falling, sometimes reluctantly, in love.

As her readers grew up, West added adult romcoms to her list, including We Met Like This and Stranger Things Have Happened, which keep her trademark voice while turning up the heat and dropping her characters into work, therapy sessions, and the chaos of modern dating.

Across genres, certain themes show up again and again. Her main characters are often sarcastic, anxious, or a little guarded, but they care fiercely about their friends, siblings, and parents. Sports teams, road trips, small town streets, and crowded kitchens give the romances a lived in backdrop, and there is nearly always a grandparent, neighbor, or side character with one liners that steal a scene.

West still lives in Central California with her family and a growing collection of houseplants. When she is not drafting another story, she reads widely, binge watches television, heads for the coast whenever she can, and checks in with readers on social media.

For many fans, her books have become a kind of comfort read, the ones you reach for when you want a quick hit of hope, humor, and a happy ending.
