Author bio
Julie Mellon writes mysteries, romantic suspense, paranormal romance, and small-town love stories. Her books often put capable women in stressful situations, then give them a problem that cannot be solved by simply walking away.
Mellon is a Central Kentucky native. She grew up in an Army family and lived in several parts of the United States as well as overseas, an experience that fed a lasting interest in travel, unfamiliar places, and the people who call them home.
She earned a degree in English, but her first long-term career was in higher education finance. Writing came later. After about fifteen years in that work, she decided to make room for the creative side of her life and began building stories of her own.
Her lifelong love of mysteries gave her a natural place to start. Free to Kill, published in 2014, introduced FBI agent Katie Freeman, newly reassigned to Tennessee and immediately pulled into a brutal missing-women case. Katie and her partner Michael Powell became the center of the Katie Freeman Mysteries, a series that blends investigations, cold cases, workplace pressure, and personal secrets.
The cases are dark, but the people matter.
Mellon also writes romantic suspense in the Tip of the Spear books. These stories follow the people connected to a private investigation and protection firm, where former military experience, dangerous assignments, and romantic complications tend to arrive together. In In the Shadows, for example, Jessica Ross turns to Jason Powell for help while fleeing a threatening former boyfriend.
Then there is a very different kind of danger. The Devil Mountain Shifters books move to Alaska for paranormal romances shaped by pack loyalties, old rivalries, and the difficult pull of mating bonds. Second Mate follows a wolf shifter still grieving a lost partner while an uneasy chance for peace brings a woman from a rival pack into his life.
Mellon's contemporary romances take a softer route without giving up conflict. The Fog's Edge books are set in a fictional Tennessee mountain town whose future depends on a new generation of residents. Fog's Edge begins when Shelby Barrett returns after many years away, while Yours Again, How Long I've Loved You, and As I Am focus on relationships tested by history, family expectations, and the risks of beginning again.
She has also written the short Valenti Sisters romances, each centered on one sister at a romantic crossroads. Across all these series, Mellon returns to people who have to face the past, protect what matters, and decide whether they can trust someone else with their future.
Away from the page, she has enjoyed travel and outdoor pursuits including scuba diving, rock climbing, and whitewater rafting. She has also supported dog rescue work, a quieter counterweight to the high-risk hobbies and high-stakes plots.
