Author bio
Jordan Dane came to fiction after a long stretch in the energy business, where she worked as an energy sales manager before turning hard toward writing. She started pursuing publication in the early 2000s, and that mix of practical discipline and dark imagination still shows up in the way her novels are built.
Her books move fast.
Dane's break came sooner than many writers ever get to see. After working the contest circuit and trying to break in, she sold her first three-book deal to Avon in 2006, then followed it with another three-book thriller deal in 2007, before her first novel had even reached shelves. Her debut, No One Heard Her Scream, arrived in 2008 and went on to be named one of Publishers Weekly's Best Books of the year in mass market. Since then, she has published more than two dozen novels, with books reaching readers in multiple countries.
That first wave of suspense novels set the tone for a lot of what followed. In books like No One Heard Her Scream, Evil Without a Face, The Last Victim, and Blood Score, she writes about damaged investigators, missing people, predators, traffickers, and killers who leave deep marks on everyone around them. Readers who click with her work usually like the same things: brisk pacing, emotional pressure, flawed leads, and stories that never get too tidy.
She also doesn't stay in one lane for long. Alongside adult crime fiction, Dane moved into young adult fiction with In the Arms of Stone Angels and On a Dark Wing, then built out a paranormal YA world in Indigo Awakening and Crystal Fire. Even when she changes age category or brings in psychic gifts and supernatural elements, the through line is easy to spot. She likes high stakes, bruised characters, uneasy alliances, and the feeling that danger is already in the room.
Research matters to her.
Over the years, Dane has talked about using technical advisers and digging into real cases and forensic details to give her fiction weight. Some of her settings come from places she knows well. She has referred to San Antonio as her old hometown, has lived in Oklahoma, and spent years in Alaska, a place that turns up in more than one book. That lived-in sense of place helps explain why her thrillers often feel a little rough around the edges in a good way. The cities, border towns, remote stretches, and lonely back roads usually matter as much as the plot.
She is especially drawn to people under strain. A homicide detective carrying family grief. A bounty hunter with old scars. A profiler whose gift feels more like a curse. A teenage girl who can see ghosts, or another who learns Death has not forgotten her. Dane likes characters who are competent but shaken, stubborn but not invincible. That balance is a big part of why her work crosses so easily between romantic suspense, thriller, police procedural, mystery, and paranormal fiction.
These days, she writes from Texas and shares her home with family and rescue dogs. She has also described herself as someone who loves travel, research, and the small odd details that make a story feel real. That seems like a fair summary of her books, too. They are restless, curious, darkly charged, and always looking for the human pulse underneath the danger.
