Even there, one act of intervention drags him into kidnapping, revenge, and the risk of having his cover blown.

What links the series is not one big puzzle so much as Joe himself. These are fast, gritty British thrillers, more about pursuit, survival, and split second choices than neat detective work. The settings change, but Bale keeps returning to places that trap people in useful ways: an exclusive island, a town with its own rules, a large country property where danger can sit just next door. Joe moves through them like a man who knows every quiet corner can become a kill zone.
