Author bio
Jody Holford is a Canadian author who writes contemporary romance and cozy mysteries, often with the same warm, approachable touch. Her books move easily between small-town love stories, sports romance, holiday novellas, and amateur sleuth adventures, but they tend to share a few things: emotionally guarded people, strong community ties, and characters trying to build a life that finally feels like home.
She has described herself in very everyday terms, a mom and wife first, then a friend, daughter, sister, auntie, teacher, reader, worrier, over-thinker, and emotional writer. That mix says a lot about her fiction too. Her books are rarely about glamorous people living untouchable lives. They are usually about regular people doing their best, making a mess of things, and slowly figuring out how to trust love.
Writing seems to have been part of her life for a long time. She has spoken about writing stories of love, suspense, and heartbreak from a young age, and she built her publishing career while still working as a teacher. Rather than treating writing as a clean break from the rest of her life, she folded it into everything else, family, classroom work, reading, and the busy rhythm of ordinary days.
Her published career began with Forever Christmas, and from there she steadily built a backlist full of linked romance series. Readers who like interconnected communities will find plenty to settle into in books like More Than Friends, Let it Be Me, and the Angel's Lake novels. These stories often center on neighbors, single parents, returning hometown kids, police officers, firefighters, veterinarians, and people who are not looking for love quite as much as love is looking for them.
Then she added murder.
With Deadly News, Holford moved into cozy mystery, introducing newspaper editor Molly Owens and the coastal Oregon town of Britton Bay. Later, Home Is Where the Body Is launched another mystery series with graphic designer and true crime fan Annie Abbott. Even in the mystery books, the appeal is similar to the romances: memorable side characters, a strong sense of place, and just enough danger to keep the pages turning without losing the charm.
Home matters in her fiction.
That is probably why so many of her stories are set in close-knit towns or communities where everybody notices everybody else. In Falling for Home and other Angel's Lake books, characters wrestle with whether to stay, return, or finally put down roots. In Kendrick Place, the setting itself feels like family. In All the Other Me, she stretches into a more speculative, emotional premise, but the heart of the story is still about identity, family history, and the life a person chooses to claim.
She also writes romantic comedies as Sophie Sullivan, which makes sense once you read across both names. The voice is still warm, funny, and interested in emotional truth, even when the setup changes. Across pen names and genres, Holford keeps coming back to connection, second chances, and the quiet bravery it takes to let someone see the real you.
These days, she lives in British Columbia with her family, and teaching remains part of her life alongside writing. That balance seems to suit her work. Her books feel grounded, busy with feeling, and full of people who are still learning that love, friendship, and belonging are worth the risk.
