Author bio

Joanna Wylde did not arrive at fiction by a neat, planned route. Before readers knew her for outlaw bikers, dangerous loyalties, and very intense love stories, she was working in journalism. She spent time at two daily newspapers, doing the kind of work that teaches a writer to notice details, listen closely, and get to the point.

Her career moved around after that. She worked as a reporter and editor, managed a homeless shelter, and later ran her own freelance writing business. That work covered a wide range, from fundraising projects to ghostwriting for academics. It is not the usual path into romance writing, but it helps explain why her books often feel grounded in working lives, hard choices, and people under pressure.

Then a gift changed her direction.

In 2012, Wylde got her first Kindle reader and started paying attention to the indie publishing boom happening online. She has said that this was the moment she really saw how much the writing world was changing. Not long after that, she began cutting back on client work so she could focus on a novel of her own. That book was Reaper's Property, published in January 2013, and it quickly became the start of a new full-time career in fiction.

That book changed the rest of her working life.

The Reapers MC novels became the center of her bibliography, and they are still what many readers know best. Books like Reaper's Property, Reaper's Legacy, Devil's Game, Reaper's Fall, and Reaper's Fire mix club politics, family trouble, sexual tension, and women who refuse to be pushed around. What pulls readers in is not just the heat, although there is plenty of that. It is the way Wylde writes power, loyalty, and the costs of belonging to a world with its own rules. Her characters can be messy, stubborn, protective, selfish, funny, and unexpectedly tender, sometimes all in the same chapter.

She did not start with bikers, though. Earlier books like The Price of Pleasure, The Price of Freedom, and Jerred's Price show another side of her writing in science fiction romance. Those stories move through the Saurellian Federation, a harsher future of war, slavery, spies, smugglers, and bad bargains. Even there, you can see the things that would later define her better-known work. She likes strong pressure on the story. She likes characters who want each other before they know what to do about it. And she likes people trying to carve out a little freedom inside systems that are built to control them.

Wylde also expanded the Reapers world with connected books and shorter fiction. Silver Bastard opened the Silver Valley line, rooted in northern Idaho mining country and another motorcycle club with its own local history. Later novellas like Shade's Lady, Rome's Chance, and Eli's Triumph let her revisit favorite characters and corners of that world without losing the rough edge that made readers show up in the first place.

Today, she lives in the mountains of northern Idaho with her family. That detail feels right when you read her work. Her best-known books are deeply tied to place, especially Idaho and the inland Northwest, and that sense of landscape helps give them weight. Even when her stories get wild, they still feel lived in. There is weather in the air, dust on the road, trouble around the corner, and two people trying to figure out whether desire is worth the risk.
