Author bio

Jenny Hale writes the kind of love stories that feel like stepping into a favorite holiday movie or a long afternoon by the sea. She is a USA Today, Amazon, and international bestselling author of romantic contemporary fiction, with more than a million copies of her books sold around the world. Her novels have been translated into multiple languages and adapted for television, including the Hallmark Channel movies based on Coming Home for Christmas and Christmas Wishes and Mistletoe Kisses. Her work has also been highlighted in major magazines such as Oprah Magazine and Southern Living, which have featured both her summer and Christmas titles.

Before she was publishing full time, Hale spent years in front of a classroom as an elementary school teacher. She squeezed writing into early mornings, late nights, and school breaks, slowly turning scattered scenes and ideas into complete stories. Joining a local writing group helped her learn the craft, find critique partners, and see that the cozy, heartfelt tales she loved to read could also be the stories she put into the world.

Her debut novel, Coming Home for Christmas, introduced many readers to the mix that has become her trademark: big family holidays, complicated relationships, and a heroine trying to do the right thing even when her own life is a bit of a mess. That book found a wide audience and, a few years later, became a Hallmark Christmas movie, bringing her characters off the page and onto the screen. Seeing actors walk through scenes she had only imagined on her laptop was a turning point that confirmed she could build a lasting career in fiction.

Hale has returned to Christmas again and again, finding fresh angles on snow, second chances, and family traditions. We’ll Always Have Christmas follows a single mom fighting to save her family bakery, while Christmas at Silver Falls centers on a mountain inn that might not survive the season without a little help and a well placed investment. In A Lighthouse Christmas, a grieving granddaughter returns to a coastal lighthouse at risk of being sold, and Meet Me at Christmas brings a travel writer home to Tennessee for a holiday that changes everything. Across these books, readers come for the tinsel and twinkle lights, then stay for the way her characters repair old hurts.

Summer, though, is just as important in her fiction. Books like The Summer House, Summer at Firefly Beach, The Beach House, and The Magic of Sea Glass are steeped in salt air, front porches, and found families. Many of these stories are set along the coasts of the American South, from the Outer Banks to the Gulf, where beach cottages hide family secrets, diaries and letters send characters digging into the past, and falling in love is tangled up with deciding what “home” should look like.

As her catalog grew, Hale also stepped into publishing from the other side of the desk. She founded Harpeth Road Press, a small, author centered imprint focused on women’s fiction and romance. There she pairs her experience as a working novelist with a close knit team of editors, designers, and marketers, helping other writers bring their own warm, hopeful stories to readers. It is another way she stays involved in every stage of a book’s life, from first idea to finished paperback.

Certain themes run through almost everything she writes. Her heroines are often at a crossroads, pulled between big city careers and the quieter pull of small towns that remember them from childhood. Parents, grandparents, and siblings shape the stakes of each story, whether a character is trying to save a family business, honor a last wish, or repair an old rift. There is always a strong sense of place, whether that is a snow covered mountain inn, a creaky beach house with a wraparound porch, or a lakeside cabin that holds too many memories to count.

Today, Hale calls Nashville, Tennessee home. When she is not drafting a new chapter or reviewing pages for Harpeth Road, she can often be found racing between school events for her two sons, walking the family labradoodle, or snapping photos around town. She still writes in coffee shops when she can, turning everyday details into the kind of gentle, hopeful fiction that gives readers a brief escape and a soft place to land.
