Author bio

Jen Peters writes sweet romance with small towns, mountain views, and people who need a real second chance, not just a dramatic kiss at the end. She was born in Oregon and grew up there, and that Pacific Northwest pull still shows in her fiction even though she now lives in Central Indiana.

That sense of place matters in her books. McCormick's Creek is set in Oregon, and again and again she comes back to communities where work is part of everyday life, whether that means restoring an old house, running a restaurant, caring for animals, or keeping a ranch going through a rough season. Her settings are pretty, but they are never just wallpaper.

Her published fiction career began with Trusting His Heart in 2018. That story introduced McCormick's Creek, a small-town romance world built around renovation, old hurts, and the slow work of learning to trust. The series grew with books like Finding Her Heart, Safe in His Heart, Stealing His Heart, The Christmas Key to Her Heart, and Protecting Her Heart.

Then the horses moved closer to center stage.

Peters has said that the ranch material in Safe in His Heart was especially fun to write, and that spark helped lead her toward a new direction. A friend had asked whether she had ever considered Christian romance, and over time the answer became yes. In 2021 she launched Black Rock Ranch with Cherished by the Rancher, then followed it with books such as Resisting the Rancher, Falling for the Rancher, Rescuing the Rancher, and Building Dreams at the Rancher's Retreat. Those stories keep her warm, clean-romance style, but they bring in stronger faith elements, more horses, more family pressure, and the daily texture of ranch life.

Across both series, a few things come up again and again. Peters likes practical heroines who are starting over, men who seem steady but are carrying private damage, and communities that can be nosy, generous, and hard to fool. Readers who enjoy rescue dogs, home renovation, ranch chores, holiday charm, and gentle emotional stakes will probably feel at home in her work.

She also clearly loves a Christmas setup.

That shows in Sleigh Ride with the Cowboy, her Huckleberry Falls holiday story, and in Romancing the Vet, her Health Care Heroes contribution. Even in her shorter work, she tends to focus on kindness, chemistry, and the quiet moments that make a relationship believable. Her books are clean, warm, and interested in healing as much as flirting.

Life away from the page sounds a bit like one of her backdrops. She and her husband renovate houses. She borrows a horse from a neighbor, tries to stay ahead of the garden, and spends time with Bailey, her opinionated Cavalier spaniel. In summer she likes writing from a landing in a wooded backyard overlooking a creek. In winter, she moves inside to a chair by the fire.
