Romance is part of the picture, but so are sibling loyalty, parental complications, and the simple problem of keeping people alive long enough to argue with them later.

Across the series, the mysteries grow from bones and stolen treasure to threats aimed directly at the family itself. The stakes can turn serious fast, but Charles never loses the series' comic snap.
