Jack Jupiter Books in Order

Jack Jupiter starts with Shadow of Justice, and it feels like Ellis taking his taste for fast mysteries and dropping it into a science fiction world. The result is part fugitive story, part detective adventure, and part space thriller.

Jack is a former Naval Special Operator who once worked for the Galactic Intelligence Agency. He also has a robotic sidekick named Carl, which tells you right away that these books are comfortable mixing hard action with a bit of personality and humor. The trouble begins when Jack is wrongly accused of murdering an alien ambassador. Suddenly he is out of the agency, out of official protection, and hiding in the shadowy underworld instead of working above it.

That would be enough for one good setup, but the series adds another. An old flame reaches out to Jack about the death of a sleazy movie producer, and he cannot leave it alone. What starts as one ugly murder turns into a deeper conspiracy with Federation-level stakes.

He is a space hero with detective problems.

That mix is what makes the series distinct inside Ellis's catalog. The scale is smaller than The Galactic Wars. The mood is less beachy than Tyson Wild. What you get instead is a tougher, more noir-ish rhythm, one capable man moving through bad neighborhoods, bad secrets, and bad people while trying to clear his name and do the right thing anyway.

If you like science fiction that still leaves room for investigation, underworld politics, and a hero who refuses to ignore injustice, this is a strong pick. Jack is built for trouble, and the setting gives him plenty of it.
