The Islands of Blood and Storm series is a two-book fantasy set in the Caribbean-inspired islands of Hans Lollik. It begins with Queen of the Conquered, a story about colonial rule, inherited power, and the hard choices people make when revenge feels like the only path left.

Sigourney Rose is the sole survivor of a noble family destroyed by the Fjern colonizers. She has spent years living within the system that killed her family while hiding a dangerous gift, the ability to enter and influence other people's minds. When the island's childless king announces that he will choose an heir from the noble families, Sigourney sees an opening to get close to the people she hates and take power for herself.

Nothing goes as planned. Members of the ruling class begin to die, Sigourney becomes a suspect, and the court turns into a pressure cooker of suspicion, secrets, and shifting loyalties. She needs allies, but every possible alliance asks her to compromise something. The series does not treat power as clean or simple, and Sigourney is intentionally a difficult person to pin down.

The storm is coming from more than one direction.

In King of the Rising, the focus widens as revolution sweeps through Hans Lollik. Loren Jannik, once enslaved, is chosen to lead survivors trying to free the islands for good. But the rebels have limited food, few weapons, and no easy way to hold their ground while the Fjern push to take back control.

Together, the books follow a struggle that is both personal and political. The magic adds danger and mystery, but the central conflicts come from occupation, class divisions, survival, grief, and the question of what freedom demands from the people fighting for it. Expect court intrigue in the first book and a more open conflict in the second, with characters whose motives do not always line up neatly.

This is serious, high-stakes fantasy with violence, emotional weight, and no simple heroes. Read Queen of the Conquered first, then continue directly to King of the Rising for the outcome of the islands' fight for self-rule.
