Inspector Kari Vaara Books in Order

During the prolonged winter darkness of Finnish Lapland, a Somali woman's murdered body is discovered in the snow. Inspector Kari Vaara investigates a community where silence, prejudice, and concealed relationships make the search for her killer difficult.

Back in Helsinki and struggling with persistent headaches, Kari Vaara investigates a Russian businessman's wife's murder. A separate inquiry into a celebrated Finn's wartime past draws the detective toward politically dangerous secrets and personal threats.

Recovering from brain surgery, Kari Vaara leads an autonomous police unit funded partly through confiscated criminal wealth. An immigrants' rights activist's assassination brings his team into a case involving racial hatred, kidnappings, and his own family.

An Estonian mother asks Kari Vaara to find her missing daughter, who has Down syndrome. Seeking redemption after his failed covert operation, he follows the case into Helsinki's trafficking networks and confronts powerful, protected criminals.

New police commissioner Kari Vaara confronts a ritualistic murder marked by tarot cards and occult objects. Meanwhile, his colleague Milo investigates security-service archives whose patterns challenge the belief that Finland has no serial killers.
