That is why the setting matters so much. Gorey looks picturesque, and often is, but it is also a working community where status, money, and reputation can shape an investigation. Graham has to navigate both the formal case and the unofficial map of who owes what to whom. The result is a series that feels classic in shape but modern in pace, with plenty of suspects, strong red herrings, and personal stakes that never drown the puzzle.
