Unraveled

Clay only feels calm when he is bound, but he is terrified to ask for what he wants. Confessing his shibari kink to his overworked best friend and roommate Max upends their friendship and opens the door to a best friends to lovers journey.

Series background & context

Inked is a direct spin off from Heathens Ink, zooming in on side characters who needed more page time and on kinks that were only hinted at in the earlier books. The setting overlaps the tattoo world, but these stories are less about first discovering tattoos and more about learning how to ask for exactly the kind of intimacy you want.

The series opens with Unraveled, where a man whose brain only quiets when he is tied down confesses his needs to his best friend and roommate. He is not looking for humiliation or pain, just the safety of surrender, and watching that friend wrap his head around both kink and attraction is a big part of the emotional arc. Later, Uncomplicated follows a lonely heart who has tried to fill the void with casual encounters and finally realizes the steady love he wants might mean turning his best friend and that man’s ex into something permanent and poly.

Throughout Inked, the focus stays tightly on communication, consent, and negotiation. Characters talk about what they like in bed, what scares them, and how their histories shape those desires. There are rope scenes, power dynamics, and more than a little lingerie, but those details always sit on top of solid emotional work.

Because many of the leads first appeared in Heathens Ink, the spin off has the same found family flavor. The tattoo studio is never far away, and familiar faces drop in with advice, teasing, and the occasional nudge in the right direction. You do not have to read Heathens Ink first to enjoy these books, but doing so adds an extra layer of satisfaction as you watch side characters step fully into their own stories.

If you are curious about romances where kink is treated as something tender and normal, and where people use rope, collars, or poly dynamics to feel more whole rather than more broken, Inked is a gentle, steamy place to explore.
