The Impulse books are a compact Sierra Cartwright series, but they open a very clear door into one of her favorite kinds of story, a glossy BDSM club, powerful Doms who are used to control, and women who refuse to fit neatly into anyone else's script. The setting here is Limits, an exclusive upscale club where wealth, performance, and desire all sit uncomfortably close to real emotion.

Limits is the point.

This is not a broad family saga or a large secret-society universe. It is a more focused club world, one where status, skill, and reputation matter. The atmosphere is polished, private, and a little intimidating, which gives the series a strong sense of place even though it is smaller than Cartwright's later worlds.

In the Zone introduces that world and brings in Alani Dane, a woman who knows the scene well enough to think she understands the rules. The tension comes from the difference between practiced submission and genuine vulnerability. Shockwave stays with the same emotional territory and pushes even harder when Master Nathaniel Stratton decides Alani's defenses need to come down, whether she is ready or not.

What makes the series interesting is that it feels less like a parade of loosely connected standalones and more like an argument about control. Who has it, who wants it, and what happens when desire blows a hole in the careful roles people have built for themselves. Cartwright writes a lot of commanding men, but in Impulse the women are just as important because they understand the game well enough to know what is at stake.

If you like club-centered erotic romance where setting matters, this is worth a look. The books are intense, close-up, and more concentrated than some of Cartwright's later series. Expect a lot of push and pull, a lot of emotional brinkmanship, and a world where even people who think they know the rules can still be surprised by what they actually need.
