Series background & context

The Hypothesis series is an expanding universe of interconnected trilogies built around STEM focused heroines, academic settings, and big romantic stakes. Rather than a traditional numbered series with unrelated couples, it functions as a loose umbrella for stories that share tone, crossover characters, and scientific themes.

It begins with Elements of Chemistry, where Kaitlyn Parker and Martin Sandeke collide on a spring break trip that upends both their lives. Those books established a pattern: three acts for one relationship, released as novellas and later bundled into a single volume, balancing swoony moments with serious questions about power, money, and ambition.

The second Hypothesis arc, the Laws of Physics trilogy, shifts the focus to Mona, a physics prodigy with celebrity parents, and Abram, a talented musician who is her brother's friend. What starts as a one week identity swap in Motion turns into a slow moving emotional knot across Space and Time. Mona's rigid schedule and Abram's free wheeling life clash in ways that force both of them to rethink who they want to be.

More recently, the Fundamentals of Biology books, starting with Inheritance, follow genetics PhD student Samantha Jarlston and chess grandmaster Andreas Kristiansen into a contract relationship that tangles together corporate fraud, family trauma, and very inconvenient feelings. The scientific backdrop here is less about lab equipment and more about the politics and pressures of modern research.

Across all of Hypothesis, the common threads are brainy, sometimes socially anxious leads, sharp banter, and a willingness to show how careers and ethics can complicate romance. The books respect the work these characters do while still letting them be ridiculous, horny, and human. You do not have to read every trilogy in order to enjoy one couple's journey, but following the Hypothesis timeline gives a satisfying sense of growth as side characters step into the spotlight and earlier choices echo forward.
