House of Dragons Books in Order

The House of Dragons series is a YA fantasy about an empire where dragons are tied to political power. In Etrusia, the emperor's death starts a formal Call, and five royal houses are meant to send candidates into a Trial for the dragon throne. It is a world where family name, magic, and access to dragons can decide a person's future.

But the Call does not go as planned. Instead of the polished heirs everyone expects, five young outsiders become central to the contest: Emilia, who hides forbidden magic; Lucian, a soldier determined not to fight again; Vespir, a servant and skilled dragon trainer; Ajax, a thief; and Hyperia, who believes the throne belongs to her. They arrive with very different loyalties, fears, and ideas about what winning would mean.

Dragons are not window dressing here. They shape status, travel, warfare, and the Trial itself, while their bonds with riders or handlers reveal something about the people trying to command them. The action moves between palace rules, dangerous tests, and uneasy alliances.

Everyone is competing, even when cooperation is the smarter move.

House of Dragons follows the group through a power struggle fueled by old customs, social divides, and people willing to treat others as disposable. The series makes room for shifting friendships and rivalries, as well as questions about inherited privilege. It is built around multiple points of view, so readers see the empire from the palace level and from the much less protected edges of its hierarchy.

War of Dragons picks up after the Trial has disrupted Etrusia's usual order. With the empire divided and its young leaders facing opposition, the problem becomes larger than deciding who deserves a crown. The characters must deal with the consequences of breaking tradition while a much older danger begins to wake. The stakes widen from a contest of heirs to the survival of an empire.

Expect quick-moving scenes, political intrigue, creatures, betrayals, and characters who make choices under pressure. The tone is adventurous but not weightless, since the books keep coming back to power, class, responsibility, and the cost of deciding that one person’s life matters less than another's.
