High Stakes Books in Order

High Stakes takes Vegas glamour and strips some of the shine off it. Yes, there is money, power, and beauty here, but there is also danger, debt, loyalty, revenge, and the harder life that exists just beyond the tourist version of the city. Christina C Jones uses that tension well.

Ante Up starts the series with Asha and Kingston, and it sets the tone quickly. Survival matters. So does control. Love is not arriving in a soft, uncomplicated world. Later books and companion holiday entries like King of Hearts and High Stakes Holiday keep returning to the people around that first story, while Deuces Wild pushes deeper into the suspense side of the series through Ace and Cree.

Vegas is more than a backdrop here.

The city shapes the power dynamics. It creates temptation, exposure, and risk. It also helps Jones explore class, family expectation, and the difference between appearing secure and actually being safe. The romantic tension is high, but so is the sense that one bad decision could ripple through everything.

Readers who like contemporary romance with a sharper edge should do well here. The world is connected, the characters recur, and the emotional payoffs land better when you read in order. There is heat, of course, but there is also real pressure, which is what gives the series its particular kick.
