Series background & context
Evangeline Anderson’s Hidden Hollow is a small-town monster romance series set in a magical New England community where autumn seems almost permanent. Witches, demons, orcs, and other creatures share a setting of bakeries, inherited houses, and unexpected doorways. The town’s comfortable seasonal atmosphere sits alongside curses, dangerous former partners, and supernatural obligations, giving its romances both a place of refuge and reasons for that refuge to be defended.
Sworn to the Orc begins with Sarah at a low point: she has lost her online job and faces a sharp rent increase. An unexpected inheritance brings news of a grandmother she has somehow forgotten. Passing through a mysterious door, she reaches Hidden Hollow and learns that her family belongs to a line of witches. The revelation challenges her belief that she has no magic, especially because a childhood spell has already restricted her ability to speak to strangers or form romantic relationships.
An intimidating orc neighbor becomes involved in Sarah’s search for answers. Their initial friction develops alongside the mystery of her family’s curse, linking her new home to a history she does not yet understand. Hidden Hollow’s protective magical boundary also raises a question about her arrival: if people without magical ability cannot enter, her presence itself suggests that she knows less about her identity than she thought.
The town’s doors lead toward hidden inheritances as often as new romances.
Dreaming of the Demon offers a different view of the community through Celia, a kitchen witch who runs the Lost Lamb bakery. Turning forty alone is not the birthday she wanted, and the arrival of a portrait of a handsome demon makes the occasion stranger. Her familiar relationship with everyday magic does not prepare her for the possibility that the figure in the painting is watching her. The story takes the town’s domestic comforts into a more gothic encounter with a supernatural admirer.
In Guarded by the Gargoyle, Willow’s touch awakens Kael from stone. He declares himself her protector, while she struggles to trust anyone after damaging relationships with human men. An abusive ex makes his warning of danger difficult to dismiss. These opening stories use different couples and creatures within the same community, pairing protective partners with women confronting old restrictions or painful experiences. The books combine explicit monster romance with curses, magical discoveries, and second chances. Beginning with Sworn to the Orc introduces the town through a newcomer’s eyes, while the other relationships offer additional ways into its mixture of familiar daily life and extraordinary inhabitants.
