Scarred weaves together the mutilation of an elderly woman in a nursing home with a scandal engulfing Henning's sister Trine, a government minister accused of sexual harassment. Cursed begins with a missing woman who was supposed to be at a retreat in Italy but never left Oslo, and draws Henning and Nora into the secrets of a powerful Swedish family and a long ago killing. In Killed, the final book, Henning finally comes within reach of the people who ordered the fire, at a cost that feels painfully believable.

Underneath the murders and manhunts, the real story is about how far one man will go to live with what he has lost.

Enger uses Henning's job to show a side of crime fiction that usually stays off stage. We see editors demanding clicks, reporters competing for sources and the uneasy dance between newsroom and police station.
