Series background & context

Hearts & Horsepower lives in the world of performance cars, race shops, drag strips, and the people who know exactly how much work goes into making something fast. If you like romances where the setting has grease under its nails, this series knows what it is doing.

The books circle around LT Motorsports and the wider automotive community connected to it. These are owners, builders, tuners, fabricators, and drivers. The jobs matter. Logan in Control the Burn is a race-shop owner. Avery in Behind the Wheel wants back on the drag strip and has to prove she belongs in a male-dominated space. Ryker in Far Beyond Repair can rebuild a car from the ground up, but fixing an old relationship is harder. Kieran in How to Rebuild and Nash in Out of Alignment keep that workmanlike, highly skilled energy going.

Cars are not wallpaper here.

Evans clearly likes this world, and that affection comes through in small details instead of long explanations. The shop floor, the technical language, the pressure of competition, and the day-to-day grind of keeping things running all shape the characters' lives. The series feels grounded because the work feels real. People are tired, proud, ambitious, stubborn, and deeply aware that talent means very little without hours behind it.

Even with all that automotive texture, these are still relationship-first books. Kendall and Logan have unfinished business after one unforgettable night. Scarlet and Ryker carry the ache of a love that once broke apart. Elise is forced into a life reset right when Kieran walks into it. Parker and Nash begin with friction, embarrassment, and the kind of chemistry that gets worse once they have to keep seeing each other.

The tone is contemporary romance rather than suspense, but the stories still have weight. Characters deal with professional setbacks, heartbreak, insecurity, and the fear that they missed their chance. The automotive backdrop gives the books motion, but the real engine is emotional repair.

That makes the series feel different from Evans's snowboarding books or her security worlds. It is more about work, ambition, and the practical side of building a life. The heroes are competent in a very everyday way. They show up, fix things, and put in the hours. The heroines are no less strong, and several of them are fighting to claim space in a world that does not always hand it over easily.

If you want romance with race-shop energy, skilled hands, and couples learning how to tune their lives back into balance, Hearts & Horsepower is a strong pick. It is warm, grounded, and full of people who understand that rebuilding takes time.
