Author bio

Harper L Woods is the fantasy romance name Adelaide Forrest uses when she wants to push further into magic, danger, and obsession. Under Adelaide Forrest, she writes dark and gritty romance. Under Harper, the same appetite for high-stakes relationships shows up in fae wars, witch schools, demons, curses, and women trying to survive systems much bigger than they are.

She was raised in small-town Vermont, where long winters gave her plenty of reading time. On her publisher page, she connects those cold seasons, and a childhood spent with her face in books, to the start of her life as a reader. Those early habits also help explain why her stories move so easily between romance and fantasy instead of treating them like separate rooms.

She started with short stories and was already trying full-length fiction by the time she was ten. Later, she taught herself by reading widely about plotting and craft, then built her own system for outlining, character work, and drafting. She has also said she has collected more than 350 story ideas over the years, which explains why her shelves already feel crowded and why there always seems to be another project waiting.

She is a planner, too.

That mix of discipline and big imagination shows up all through the Harper books. What Lies Beyond the Veil opens the Of Flesh & Bone series with Estrella, a broken Veil, and a flight from both human and fae danger. What Hunts Inside the Shadows, What Lurks Between the Fates, and What Sleeps Within the Cove keep widening that story until romance, prophecy, and war are all tangled together.

Then there is The Coven, which shows another side of her fantasy work. Instead of fae courts and borderlands, that series starts with a secretive university, old witch power, and a heroine who arrives with revenge on her mind. By the time the Coven of Bones books widen into The Damned and The Divine, the mood has shifted from dark academia into something more infernal, but the emotional pressure stays just as high.

Her Adelaide Forrest books stay closer to organized crime and contemporary dark romance. Titles like Bloodied Hands and Until Tomorrow Comes trade magic for crime families, obsession, and men who are dangerous on purpose. The setting changes. The tension does not.

What tends to pull readers in is the mood. Her stories like heat, secrecy, and power imbalances, but they also keep returning to women who are boxed in by rules, fear, duty, or other people's ambitions. Whether the backdrop is a human settlement shaped by purity laws, a witch-run town, or a criminal empire, she writes love stories where survival and desire are never neatly separated. Readers who want atmosphere with real bite usually know pretty quickly that they are in the right place.

Off the page, the details are pleasantly ordinary.

She has written about spending her non-writing time with her two young children and her pets. She likes travel, chocolate, and chai tea, and she has mentioned that she sometimes designs book covers she will never have enough time to use. It is an appealingly human picture: a writer juggling family life, two pen names, and a very large pile of ideas, while still making room for a few more.
