Series background & context

Harmony is the contemporary side of Michelle Howard's catalogue. It trades alien worlds and supernatural politics for present-day relationships, but it still carries the same interest in emotional tension, attraction under pressure, and people who do not make falling in love easy on themselves.

Right now the series begins with No Reason to Run.

That alone makes Harmony interesting if you are coming to Howard from her sci-fi and paranormal work. You can see the same taste for push-pull chemistry and guarded characters, just without the extra layer of worldbuilding. The stakes are more grounded, which lets the emotional choices sit front and center.

The tone is more intimate than her space romances, but not softer. Howard still likes friction. She still likes characters with reasons to hold back. And she still likes a relationship that has to be fought for before it can settle into something secure.

If you want to see where her published career started, or you simply prefer contemporary romance to aliens and magic, Harmony is the place to look. It is a smaller corner of her work, but it shows the same instinct for fast emotional connection and hard-earned payoff.
