Author bio

Hannah M Lynn was born in 1984 and grew up in the Cotswolds in the UK, a detail that makes a lot of sense once you have spent time with her books. So many of them are rooted in place, whether that means a chocolate-box village, a canal-side community, or a windswept corner of ancient Greece. Even when the setting changes, there is usually a strong sense that people are shaped by where they live, and by the lives they imagine for themselves somewhere else.

Before writing full time, Lynn spent 15 years teaching physics. She taught first in the UK, then in Thailand, Malaysia, Austria, and Jordan. That mix of science, travel, and classroom life feels important to her work. Her stories are often warm and emotional, but they also have structure, momentum, and a practical eye for how people behave when life gets messy.

Teaching came first. Writing kept pushing its way in.

While she was working as a teacher, Lynn began writing short stories for children, inspired by the imaginations of the young people she taught. From there she moved into adult fiction and published her debut novel, Amendments, in 2015. It is a darker, more speculative book than many readers now associate with her name, built around the idea of changing the past and living with the fallout. That interest in second chances, and in the cost of taking them, has stayed with her ever since.

Her second novel, The Afterlife of Walter Augustus, helped bring her wider attention. With its mix of humor, heart, and the supernatural, it won the 2018 Kindle Storyteller Award and an Independent Publishers Gold Medal for Best Adult Ebook. It also showed something Lynn does very well: she can take an unusual premise and make it feel human, funny, and emotionally close-up.

That same gift runs through her contemporary fiction. In books like Peas, Carrots and an Aston Martin and The Sweet Shop of Second Chances, she writes about ordinary people whose lives suddenly veer off course. Readers tend to come for the comedy, the awkward situations, and the romance, but they stay for the characters, who are often trying to rebuild a home, a family rhythm, or a sense of self after disappointment.

She has also built a strong following with her myth retellings. Athena's Child, A Spartan's Sorrow, Queens of Themiscyra, and Daughters of Olympus all revisit women from Greek myth and give them more room, more inner life, and more say in their own stories. Rather than treating these figures like distant symbols, Lynn brings them down to earth. Her queens, mothers, daughters, and warriors feel frightened, angry, loving, stubborn, and very alive.

She writes across genres, but there is a clear thread running through the lot.

Again and again, Lynn returns to women remaking themselves, families under pressure, people learning to live with grief, and characters who discover that a fresh start is rarely neat but can still be worth it. She now lives back in the UK with her husband, daughter, and a horde of cats, and writes romantic comedies and historical fiction. It sounds like a busy house, which somehow feels exactly right for an author whose books are full of noise, feeling, and people trying to make room for one more chance.
