Unambitious Hlynur Bjorn lives with his mother and drifts through Reykjavík’s nightlife. When his girlfriend becomes pregnant and he grows obsessed with another woman, the comfortable routine protecting him from responsibility becomes a tangle of increasingly awkward relationships.

After killing the wrong man, a Croatian mafia hitman flees New York using an American televangelist’s identity. Stranded in Iceland, where his usual skills offer little help, he must confront his violent past and consider an unfamiliar future.

Eighty-year-old Herra Björnsson waits for death in a Reykjavík garage with a laptop and a hand grenade. Her recollections move through wartime Europe, marriages and upheavals, revealing a life shaped by history, survival and her refusal to be subdued.
