Hail Books in Order

The Hail books are Brett Arquette's big techno-thriller series, built around Marshall Hail, a Nobel-winning physicist, industrial billionaire, and grieving father. Before the series opens, a terrorist attack kills his wife and daughters. Instead of trusting governments to handle it, Hail turns his money, ships, and scientific brainpower into a private campaign against terrorists.

He's not a boots-on-the-ground hero.

Hail fights with engineering, logistics, and nerve. Starting in Operation Hail Storm, he works from modified ships like the Hail Nucleus and the Hail Proton, using MIT friends, handpicked crew members, and a growing arsenal of drones and surveillance tools. Many of the people around him were also scarred by the same coordinated attack, and Hail gives them work, shelter, and a mission. That setup gives the series its identity. These books care about weapons and gadgets, but they also care about who gets to control them.

Kara Ramey is the other key figure. She is a CIA operative with losses of her own, which makes her more than just the government observer sent to watch Hail. Across Hail Warning, Hail Strike, Hail Damage, and Hail Sting, her relationship with Hail keeps shifting between partnership, suspicion, attraction, and plain frustration. That push and pull gives the series much of its emotional tension and keeps the missions from reading like pure hardware demonstrations.

That matters because the larger story is not only about killing bad people. It is also about bargaining with the U.S. government, dodging agency agendas, and deciding how far revenge can be justified when one private citizen has more reach than many states. Each book brings a fresh mission, whether that means tracking dangerous targets, going off the grid for a personal vendetta, or trying to reach an enemy hidden inside a secret detention site. The series also likes the idea of talented outsiders building their own system when official systems fail them.

If you like near-future thrillers with a lot of motion, this is the lane. The tone is part military thriller, part espionage story, and part tech-heavy revenge saga. Expect drones, covert ops, tense negotiations, and a hero who would rather design the weapon than kick down the door himself.
