Series background & context

The Guardian series is Piper Davenport's romantic-suspense starting point for the wider Dogs of Fire universe. It follows law-enforcement characters and the people whose lives become tangled with dangerous investigations, witness protection, and threats that refuse to stay in the past.

Witness introduces FBI agent Brock Williams and Bailey Harper. Brock finds Bailey injured and protecting two children during an investigation into a mob-linked drug operation in Oregon. Bailey has survived a traumatic kidnapping, and what she knows puts her in further danger. Brock's job is to keep her alive, but their growing attraction makes the line between professional duty and personal feeling harder to hold.

Protection has a cost.

The later books, Justice and Spotlight, continue the connected world with more characters from Brock's circle. Each romance has its own central conflict, but the series shares a focus on people who must confront crime, personal history, and the risks of letting someone close when safety is uncertain.

These are fast-moving contemporary romantic-suspense stories. The investigations bring urgency, while the relationships focus on recovery, trust, and the appeal of a partner who will not walk away when things get frightening. Familiar characters later appear around the Dogs of Fire books, making this series a useful place to begin for readers who want the fullest view of that shared universe.

Start with Witness, then read Justice and Spotlight in order. The books introduce friendships and relationships that carry forward, even as each installment centers on a different couple.

Expect FBI cases, protective heroes, resilient heroines, and romance that develops in the middle of very real danger.
