Series background & context

Personal Protection Specialists is the bodyguard branch of Ellie Masters’ Guardian universe. Instead of kicking down doors on an extraction, these heroes are hired to prevent the crisis in the first place. They plan routes, build safe rooms, and stand between their client and whatever threat is stalking her.

The setup creates a specific kind of tension. Protection means rules: where she can go, what she can do, who she can talk to. For the heroine, that can feel like a cage, even when the man enforcing it is the only reason she’s still breathing. For the hero, the job is clear, keep her alive, don’t get attached.

Attachment is the problem.

The series leans into close quarters and constant proximity, with romance that grows through small moments, late-night conversations, and the shift from professional distance to personal need. The stakes tend to be grounded in real-world dangers, stalking, trafficking, blackmail, and the kind of violence that makes bodyguards necessary.

Sybil’s Protector and Lyra’s Protector show two different sides of that premise. One heroine is recovering from being taken and nearly sold, the other is targeted after stumbling into something she shouldn’t have seen. In both cases, the protector has to balance force with care, and the heroine has to decide whether she can trust someone who’s trained to control the room.

If you like romantic suspense that stays up close, with a “you’re safe with me” heartbeat and plenty of heat, Personal Protection Specialists is a strong fit. It also plays well with the rest of the Guardian books, so it’s easy to hop in here and then branch out.
