Godswar Books in Order

The Mask of Ares and The Spear of Athena make up the current Godswar story, and they read like classical quest fantasy filtered through Spoor's fondness for strong team dynamics. The books begin with four travelers, Ingram, Quester, Urelle Vantage, and Victoria Vantage, who think one job is over just before they learn that something much larger has gone wrong in distant Aegeia.

Aegeia is not just another kingdom. Its life is shaped by a living cycle built around Athena and Ares, reason and passion, order and war. When a false Ares takes the place of the real god and starts bending that cycle toward destruction, the series becomes a race against assassins, sealed borders, and a divine system that is failing from the inside.

The group matters as much as the plot.

Ingram brings exile and unfinished history. Urelle has deeper magic than anyone first expects. Victoria is older, wiser, and very much not done with adventure. Quester carries his own legacy. Because the books travel with all four, the series feels like a party quest where personality and trust are part of how survival works.

The tone is mythic without becoming distant. There are gods, prophecies, magical barriers, and world-scale danger, but the focus stays practical: who is chasing them, how they get through the next barrier, what each person is hiding, and what they are willing to risk for each other.

If you want a fantasy series that feels old-school in a good way, heroes on the road, divine stakes, secret identities, and a villain who has stolen a god's face, Godswar is easy to recommend. Read it in order, because the second book grows directly out of the first.
