Series background & context

The Goddess Test series gives Greek mythology a modern setting and puts an ordinary teenager at the center of an ancient bargain. Kate Winters has spent most of her life looking after her mother, who is seriously ill. When her mother wants to return to her childhood home, Kate agrees, leaving behind the life and friends she knows.

There, Kate meets Henry, a guarded young man who claims to be Hades, god of the Underworld. He offers her a deal: if she can pass seven tests, he will keep her mother alive. The catch is brutal. Every girl who tried before Kate has died, and success would make her Henry's future bride and a goddess.

The Goddess Test begins as Kate's personal gamble, but the series soon grows into a story about old gods, family loyalties, rivalries, and a coming war. Kate has to learn the rules of the Underworld while deciding whether she can trust Henry, the other immortals, or even the future she is being offered.

The gods have long memories.

The main novels follow Kate's journey through The Goddess Test, Goddess Interrupted, and The Goddess Inheritance. In the second book, Kate's new immortality does not solve her problems, especially after Henry is taken by the King of the Titans. The third raises the stakes again as Kate faces threats to the people she loves and to the mortal world.

Several shorter companion stories fit between the main books. The Goddess Hunt follows Kate during a trip to Greece after the first novel. The stories in The Goddess Legacy, also available separately as The Goddess Queen, The Lovestruck Goddess, Goddess Of The Underworld, God of Thieves, and God of Darkness, look at Hera, Aphrodite, Persephone, Hermes, and Hades. They add useful backstory but are not the best entry point for a new reader.

This series mixes romance, mythology, and danger without losing sight of Kate's need to protect the people she loves. Start with The Goddess Test, then use the companion novellas in reading order if you want more time with the wider cast.
