The series has a fast, soapy rhythm, but the core is Emma’s need to survive a world that keeps underestimating her.

Readers who like murder mysteries wrapped in rich-family drama should start with By Invitation Only. The books are short and connected, so they work best as a complete trilogy rather than separate stops.
