Series background & context
The Gilded Wings trilogy is a young adult fantasy series about Haven Terra, a smart, shy teenager who learns that the ordinary life she knows is only part of a much larger battle. Haven is not looking for adventure or attention. She wants to do well at school, stay close to her friends, and figure out where she belongs. Then a prestigious internship changes the rules.
In Illuminate, Haven, her best friend Dante, and classmate Lance are chosen to live and work at a newly reopened luxury hotel in Chicago. The opportunity looks like a dream, complete with powerful hosts, stylish coworkers, and a world of wealth that feels far removed from high school. Haven soon notices that the hotel's polished surface is hiding something dangerous.
A mysterious book and a series of unsettling clues pull her toward the truth. The people around her may be far more than they seem, and Haven begins to understand that she and her friends have roles to play in a conflict between angels and devils. The story mixes old Chicago atmosphere, glamorous parties, romance, and a threat tied to the souls of Haven's classmates.
Nothing stays contained in one hotel. In Infatuate, Haven, Lance, and Dante head to New Orleans for a volunteer program after finishing high school early. Their new surroundings bring them into contact with other angels-in-training and a vicious group of shape-shifting devils called the Krewe. The French Quarter setting adds haunted houses, crowded streets, old cemeteries, and a constant feeling that danger might be nearby.
By Initiate, the stakes have reached Paris. Haven and the people closest to her are tested by growing unrest in the underworld and a demon uprising that threatens far more than their own futures. Her path toward earning her wings asks for courage, loyalty, and difficult choices, especially when the people she loves are in danger.
At its heart, this is a series about friendship and self-trust as much as supernatural fights. Haven is not instantly fearless or all-powerful. She has doubts, she makes mistakes, and she has to decide who deserves her faith. The books balance romantic tension with action, while Dante, Lance, Lucian, and Haven's fellow trainees keep the emotional stakes personal.
Start with Illuminate and read in publication order. Each book builds on the relationships, rules, and unfinished dangers of the previous one, so the trilogy works best as one continuous journey.
