Series background & context
The Georgie Deacon books form a tense crime trilogy that blends domestic drama with the fallout from military secrets. At its heart is Georgie herself, a former soldier and fiercely protective mother who refuses to be dismissed or sidelined.
In Nemesis, trouble arrives in the shape of a gang of teenage girls led by Yasmin, part of the notorious Marx family. They turn up at Georgie’s door and threaten her daughter, Dixie‑Lee, then vanish—until Dixie‑Lee fails to come home. The local detective, Clark Kims, insists the Kent serial killer is to blame and shows little interest in Georgie’s fears, especially once it becomes clear his own daughter is tied to the gang. When two members of the Marx family are murdered and a Ministry of Defence file surfaces, the investigation suddenly swings toward Georgie, even as she recognises echoes of an enemy from her days in Afghanistan.
Malice digs deeper into the tangle of family and suspicion. Georgie’s husband, Dixie, is shot dead in the street, and the immediate suspects are two of his own brothers. As the police close in on them, Georgie discovers a heavy padlock on her garage and a box of unsettling items hidden in her husband’s wardrobe. At the same time her daughter is kidnapped, pushing Georgie to the edge as she tries to work out which dangers come from the outside and which were bred inside her own home.
In Callous, Georgie should finally be able to exhale. She has a loving partner in Rohan, a beautiful new house and Dixie‑Lee close by. Instead, she feels watched, plagued by flashbacks and an uneasy sense that the past is not done with her. Dixie‑Lee’s new job in a prestigious barristers’ chambers quickly turns into a nightmare that leaves her on the run and then under arrest for murder. Not knowing who she can trust, Georgie starts taking risks that alarm even those closest to her.
The series threads questions of trust and perception through every level of the story. Police, soldiers, neighbours and even family members may be hiding something, and Georgie has to decide, again and again, when to stand back and when to go to war. Read in order, the trilogy builds a picture of a woman shaped by service, trauma and unshakeable love for her daughter, fighting back against enemies who are often closer than they first appear.
