The Gatekeeper books lean darker than most of Norah Wilson's romance work. The Summoning opens in Chthonic City, Maine, where the whole town feels slightly wrong before anyone can explain why. People are exhausted, irritable, and increasingly violent, all while nightmares about demons spread from one household to the next.

The reason is simple and awful. The barrier between the human world and the underworld, the Chthonic, is thin here, and demons are starting to rise. They do not come in with trumpets and fireballs. They come through fear, stress, dreams, and the slow wearing down of ordinary people.

That makes the series feel creepy fast.

That mix of supernatural duty and teenage isolation is the heart of the story. The Gatekeepers have to trust one another before they really know one another, and they are carrying a burden that most adults around them cannot even see. The danger comes from dream battles and monsters, but also from being young and expected to hold a line the wider world does not understand.

If you like YA paranormal stories with old churches, thin veils, nightmare logic, and a group cast thrown into a fight bigger than they expected, this series has that pull. It is less about shiny magic and more about dread, teamwork, and what it costs to keep evil from getting a permanent foothold.
