Four Winds Books in Order

The Four Winds books center on the Blackhorse brothers in the New Mexico town of Four Winds. Sheriff Gabriel, healer Joshua, and doctor Lucas each get a story, but the town itself may be the real constant. It is the sort of place where old beliefs, gossip, danger, and unexpected grace all seem to travel the same road.

These novels blend romantic suspense with a slightly stronger touch of the uncanny than some of Thurlo's other early category books. Strange gifts, mysterious objects, unexplained illness, and the sense that outsiders do not fully understand what they have stepped into all help shape the mood.

Four Winds feels intimate.

Because the series is built around brothers, the books share a nice family texture. One man may be the sheriff, another a healer, another a doctor, but they are all tied to the same place and to the same expectations about service. The women who come into their lives are often in transition themselves, which gives the romance a sense of motion instead of just instant attraction.

The suspense is real, but the atmosphere is what makes the trilogy memorable. There is danger, yes, yet there is also a feeling that healing might still be possible if the characters can stop running from what the town is showing them.
