That makes the series a good fit for readers who want a more serious procedural feel while still staying in Kelly's wheelhouse of law enforcement detail, shifting alliances, and citywide danger.

Right now the series begins with just one book, but East of Sunset lays out a clear identity. Expect damaged investigators, high-stakes violent crime, a dangerous long-game killer, and a version of Los Angeles where every case feels like it could take the last thing a detective has left.
