Valérie is sharper, faster, and far more willing to treat danger as an inconvenience rather than a warning. The valley looks postcard pretty. It rarely stays calm.

If you like cozy mysteries with a strong sense of place, dry banter, and characters who bicker their way into solving crimes, this series is an easy one to settle into. It works best in order, starting with Death and Croissants, because Richard and Valérie's relationship changes over time and later books build on old grudges, old jokes, and old disasters. After that, follow the run through Death and Papa Noël, Death and Fromage, Death at the Chateau, Death in le Jardin, Death and Boules, and Death and Déjà Vu.
