Series background & context
Fate Harbor is one of Caitlyn O'Leary's earliest series, and it stands apart from much of her later work in a few clear ways. It is set in a small town on the Washington coast, it leans more openly into triad romance, and it already shows her interest in wounded characters building unusual but deeply committed families.
The line that runs through the series is simple, love comes in threes. Each book centers on a woman and two men whose lives tangle together through old history, fresh danger, and a strong sense that regular rules are not going to fit what they need. The men are often former cops, firefighters, veterans, or ex-Rangers. The women are survivors with plenty of reason to keep their guard up.
Trusting Chance / Theirs To Treasure sets the tone by drawing on foster-family history, abuse survival, and the hard work of learning to accept love. Protecting Olivia adds a murder threat to the emotional mix. Claiming Kara leans into second-chance longing. Isabella's Submission pulls human trafficking and rescue work into the center of the story.
What makes Fate Harbor interesting is that even in these earlier books, O'Leary is already doing more than heat. The romances are steamy, yes, but she is also writing about trauma, found family, protection, and the shame people carry when they think they are too damaged to be chosen.
If you are curious about where some of her recurring interests began, this is a useful series to visit. It is earlier O'Leary, but you can already see the themes that later show up in the SEAL books and Jasper Creek, hurt people, stubborn hope, and love that asks for honesty as much as passion.
