Meet Me in Virginia

by Elizabeth Camden

2025

History professor Alice Chadwick has built her career around Jane Austen's gracious ideals, but a campus scandal and budget cuts put everything she loves at risk. Her last hope may be teaming up with blunt golf-course architect Jack Latimer, whose plans to redevelop a Virginia estate clash with her passion for preservation and slowly upend both their assumptions.

Series background & context

The Far & Away books mark Elizabeth Camden's move into contemporary romance, while still keeping her love of place, vocation, and second chances. Instead of Gilded Age factories and embassies, these stories unfold in present day college towns and Florida groves.

Meet Me in Virginia pairs Alice Chadwick, a history professor who has built her life around the civility and charm of classic literature, with Jack Latimer, a high profile golf course architect who thrives on bold moves and disruption. Alice is fighting to save her career and a historic property she believes can anchor her work. Jack wants the same land for his next signature design. Their clash over how much of the past should be preserved and how much should be cleared away forces both of them to reconsider what they want their futures to look like.

In Summerlin Groves, Jenny Summerlin is trying to rescue her family's struggling citrus operation when a shocking discovery turns her land into the center of a criminal investigation. A skeleton and a cache of long buried treasure are unearthed in her grove, drawing law enforcement, historians, and media attention. The lead investigator is Captain Wyatt Rossiter, the man who broke her heart two years earlier. As they dig into a decades old mystery involving Cold War secrets and a forbidden romance, Jenny has to decide whether she can trust Wyatt again with both the case and her emotions.

Although the books are connected by tone and a loose series framework rather than shared characters, they explore similar questions: what does it mean to build a life in a particular place, how do you balance ambition with loyalty, and how do you forgive someone who has hurt you. Modern careers and settings give Camden room to play with different kinds of conflict, from academic politics to environmental and development pressures.

The Far & Away series is a good fit for readers who enjoy clean, character driven love stories set against real world problems and scenic American backdrops.
