Series background & context
The Eureka books are a looser set of romantic suspense novels from Betsy Brannon Green. They do not work like a single-detective series with one investigator solving case after case. Instead, they share Green's familiar Southern suspense style: ordinary people, strained relationships, small towns or Georgia settings, and danger that grows out of money, secrets, and old choices.
The first book, Never Look Back, follows Sydney Lovell. She marries young, raises three children, and believes her life is moving along the path she expected. Then her husband asks for a divorce, and Sydney has to rebuild from a much more fragile place. Her friendship with cattle rancher Cole Brackner brings both comfort and trouble, because Cole is under pressure to sell his land and someone is willing to use vandalism, poisoned cattle, and rumors to force the issue.
It is suspense rooted in everyday loss.
Don't Close Your Eyes is more overtly a murder mystery. In Eureka, Georgia, a woman is killed on the same night Helen Tyler arrives in town. Sheriff Matt Clevenger finds a white Bible placed on the victim's bed, then learns of another death with the same strange detail. Helen has secrets of her own, and Matt's investigation pulls them both toward a killer whose pattern is hard to ignore.
Foul Play expands the canvas to Atlanta. Billie Murphy is a public relations worker and part-time fiction writer who gets pulled into the orbit of a flashy new business venture. What looks like opportunity turns into fraud, danger, and murder, forcing Billie to run and to trust a man whose past is more complicated than his calm surface suggests.
The series is a good fit for readers who want Green's clean suspense but do not necessarily want to commit to a long town-and-cast saga like Haggerty. The romance is present, but each book is driven by a concrete threat: a ranch targeted by developers, a serial-style murder clue, or a business scheme with deadly consequences.
Start with Never Look Back if you want the publication order and the most domestic setup. Choose Don't Close Your Eyes if you want the strongest small-town murder hook right away.
