Series background & context

The Eternal Guardians books are Elisabeth Naughton's big paranormal world, built around Greek mythology, immortal politics, and very intense romance. At the center are the Argonauts, elite warriors charged with protecting both their own realm and the human world from threats that keep slipping through the cracks. From the start, the series feels larger than one couple, because every book adds another piece to the war, the family connections, and the old grudges shaping this world.

It starts with Marked, which drops readers into a conflict already in motion. The heroes are powerful, battle-scarred, and usually convinced they need to keep everyone at arm's length. The heroines are rarely interested in making that easy for them. Each book focuses on one central romance, but the bigger story keeps building in the background, so the series has a nice mix of emotional payoff and ongoing tension.

These people are never just fighting for themselves.

A big part of the appeal is the setting. Naughton blends the modern human world with an immortal realm full of castles, portals, prophecies, gods, daemons, Sirens, and old magic. It could have turned campy in the wrong hands, but here it stays grounded because the characters are always dealing with something personal, grief, betrayal, guilt, longing, duty, or the fear of becoming the very thing they are fighting.

The tone runs hot and high stakes. Books like Entwined, Tempted, Enraptured, and Enslaved all push the larger conflict forward while giving each couple a distinct emotional problem to solve. Some pairings lean into soul-mate tension. Others are built around distrust, captivity, revenge, or divided loyalties. Either way, the romance is never separate from the danger. Falling in love usually makes the stakes worse before it makes anything better.

There is also a strong sense of continuity. Characters recur, alliances shift, and what happens in one book matters later. That is especially true as the series moves into later entries like Twisted, Awakened, and Wicked, where long-running threads start paying off in bigger ways. The novellas, including Ravaged, Unchained, Hunted, and Ensnared, help fill out the world rather than feeling like side material you can ignore.

If you want the fullest experience, read these in order. You can follow an individual romance on its own, but the real fun comes from watching the whole web tighten, family by family, secret by secret, battle by battle. For readers who like alpha heroes, myth-heavy fantasy romance, and a series that keeps widening without losing its emotional core, Eternal Guardians is an easy world to sink into.
