Author bio

EN Joy is one of the pen names used by Joylynn M. Ross, a writer, editor, and publishing entrepreneur who grew up in Columbus, Ohio. She studied there too, earning degrees from Columbus State Community College and Capital University before books became the center of her working life.

For thirteen years, Ross worked as a paralegal in the insurance industry. Then she made the kind of move a lot of people only talk about. In 2000, she left that career, started publishing her own work, and built a new life around writing.

She did not come into books by accident.

That jump opened more than one lane. Ross has written secular fiction as Joylynn M. Jossel and JOY, Christian fiction as EN Joy, and children's books as N. Joy. She has also worked behind the scenes as an editor, agent, ghostwriter, and teacher, which helps explain why her stories often feel like they know exactly where to put the next twist.

Readers who pick up She Who Finds A Husband, I Ain't Me No More, or When All Is Said and Prayed usually come for the church drama, the romance, and the secrets, then stay for the way Ross lets flawed people sound like real people. Her Diva books have often been described as soap operas in print, and that label fits. The scenes move fast, the feelings run hot, and nobody gets to hide from what they want for very long.

She also has range. Under other names, she wrote books like Dollar Bill and If I Ruled the World, novels that readers know for their streetwise voice and sharp personal conflict. Younger readers know her through The Secret Olivia Told Me, a children's book that received a Coretta Scott King Honor. That mix tells you a lot about her as a writer. She is comfortable moving between grit, faith, family trouble, humor, and hope.

Church is never just background in an EN Joy book.

In series such as New Day Divas, Always Divas, Still Divas, and Forever Diva, the church is where people pray, perform, gossip, forgive, relapse, and sometimes tell on themselves without meaning to. Ross writes women who are trying to love better, live straighter, and survive what life has already done to them. She is especially interested in the space between public faith and private pain, and in the ways shame, desire, trauma, and grace can all sit in the same room.

That plain, human mess is part of the appeal.

Ross has sold more than a million copies of her work, but just as important, she has spent years helping other writers learn the business side of books. She went from author to literary agent to acquisitions editor, and later built Path To Publishing, where she teaches and mentors writers who want to shape their own careers. These days, she is still writing, still teaching, and still treating storytelling like both an art and a practical tool.

If you read EN Joy for the first time, expect characters who are messy on the page because they are messy in life. Ross has made a career out of taking people who might be judged at first glance and giving them enough room to explain themselves, or hang themselves, one honest scene at a time.
