Author bio
Elyse Douglas is the pen name of married writers Elyse Parmentier and Douglas Pennington. Together they write novels that move between holiday fiction, mystery, romantic suspense, and time travel. Their stories often begin with one unsettling discovery, a lost diary, an old lantern, a strange photograph, a burst of light, and then follow the emotional consequences from there.
Elyse grew up near the sea on the East Coast, reading, writing stories and poems, and storing away the kinds of details that later show up in the books: beaches, weather, memory, old houses, and families carrying more history than they admit. She earned a master's degree in English Literature and later worked as an English teacher, an actress, and a speech-language pathologist. That mix of literary study and everyday work helps give the novels a grounded feel, even when the plot turns impossible.
Douglas came from a family where music, astrology, and books were part of ordinary life.
He attended the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and played piano professionally for years. He also worked as a graphic designer, a corporate manager, and an equities trader. Put that together with Elyse's background, and you can see why these books are both emotional and practical. They like romance, but they also like structure, atmosphere, and a strong mystery engine.
Their fiction under the Elyse Douglas name began with The Christmas Diary in 2012. From there they built a large catalog that ranges from warm holiday stories to bigger time travel adventures. The Christmas Eve Letter sends a modern woman into 1885 New York. Speakeasy drops a nightclub singer into 1925 Manhattan. Time Change links two strangers through the same beach house, seventy-one years apart. The more recent Time Risk books lean harder into historical danger and investigative suspense.
Second chances show up again and again.
So do women at turning points, men carrying old damage, and secrets that refuse to stay buried. Some books are cozy and Christmas-lit. Some are darker and faster. Even when the premise is high concept, the real question is usually personal: who can be saved, what can be changed, and what kind of life is worth fighting for.
A lot of their fiction is set in or around New York City, but the books roam widely, from beaches and small towns to wartime London, Gilded Age Manhattan, the Roaring Twenties, and moments of twentieth-century history under pressure. Readers who like Elyse Douglas usually come back for that blend of feeling and momentum. The stories are easy to sink into, but they still make room for grief, regret, mystery, and the stubborn pull of the past.
They live in New York City. After dozens of books, they still seem drawn to the same irresistible question: what happens when the past reaches into the present, and someone has to answer it?
