Author bio

Elle Casey was born in Chicago and spent much of her childhood in Florida, a mix of places that fits the way her books move between beaches, small towns, big cities, and full-on chaos. She has said she started reading at four and never really stopped. The habit stuck so hard that she has joked about ignored chores and lost sleep whenever a story got good.

She was a reader first, and a serious one.

Before writing full time, Casey worked as a lawyer and a teacher. In 2010 she left corporate life and moved her family to France, what she expected to be a one-year experiment that turned into years abroad. While living there she taught legal English, kept reading widely, and started giving her own stories more room.

A newspaper story about indie authors helped push her from thinking about writing to actually finishing a book. Casey has said that learning about self-publishing made the process feel possible, especially for someone balancing work and family. She published Wrecked on January 1, 2012, and by early 2013 she had left her other jobs to focus on fiction full time.

Her reading tastes have always been broad. On her website she lists fantasy, paranormal, science fiction, dystopian fiction, and romance among her favorites, and she has written that Stephen King used to be her go-to author when she was younger. That range shows up clearly in her own catalog.

Genre-hopping is part of the point.

Readers who start with The Changelings and the rest of the War of the Fae books get smart-mouthed teens, elemental magic, and a big fantasy arc. Readers who pick up Shine Not Burn or Wrong Number, Right Guy find something else entirely, contemporary romance with sharp banter, danger, and people who do not always make tidy decisions. Then there is Kahayatle, with its hard-edged post-apocalyptic survival story, and Drifters' Alliance, Book 1, which heads into space with a stubborn captain and a barely manageable crew.

Across those genres, a few patterns keep showing up. Casey likes capable women, oddball groups, pressure-cooker situations, and characters who have to improvise their way through trouble. Her settings matter too, whether that means Florida beaches and swamps, Manhattan apartments, an Oregon ranch, or an old French town with something hidden around the corner.

She describes herself as a hybrid author, publishing some books herself and some with Montlake Romance. She has also written openly about family life, with her husband, children, dogs, cats, and horses, and about the years they spent in France before a later move to Tennessee. That busy, slightly chaotic energy feels very close to the books themselves.
