Author bio

Ella Fields writes romance that likes to bruise a little before it heals. She moves easily between contemporary love stories and fantasy romance, but the emotional thread stays much the same: sharp longing, messy choices, and people who have to fight their way back to each other.

She lives in Australia with her husband, two children, and what her official bio simply calls furry critters. Public author notes also make room for three other constants in her world: chocolate, magic, and words.

Fields began publishing in 2017 with Frayed Silk, an early sign of the kind of story she enjoys telling. It is intimate, emotional, and willing to sit with difficult choices instead of rushing past them. Not long after, she expanded into the college-set Gray Springs University books and the Magnolia Cove novels, where friendship, first love, jealousy, betrayal, and second chances all get their turn.

She clearly likes a romance with consequences.

Readers who come to her contemporary work often start with books like Suddenly Forbidden, Bittersweet Always, Kiss and Break Up, Hearts and Thorns, or The Grump Who Stole Summer. These stories lean into first loves, hometown history, campus upheaval, and reunions that arrive with more baggage than either person knows what to do with. Even when the settings are familiar, a university, a small town, a bookstore, the emotional stakes are never especially small.

Her fantasy side has grown just as strongly. In A King So Cold and The Stray Prince, she writes queens, enemies, memory, and power with a dark fairytale edge. In Nectar of the Wicked and Wrath of the Damned, she heads into fae politics, dangerous bargains, and a marriage that is anything but safe. Then books like Kingdom of Villains, The Savage and the Swan, The Wolf and the Wildflower, and Amid Clouds and Bones show how comfortable she is with morally gray love interests, uneasy alliances, and worlds where desire and danger are tied together.

That mix has become her lane.

Another thing that stands out in Fields's catalog is range. She has written new adult romance, small-town angst, romantic suspense, dark fantasy, and fae and vampire centered romantasy, sometimes across only a few years. Her work has reached a wide audience too. She has landed on bestseller lists including USA Today and the Sunday Times, and her books have been translated into multiple languages.

Across the bibliography, certain patterns keep showing up. Her couples tend to want each other fiercely and communicate badly, at least for a while. Loyalty matters. So do pride, class differences, buried hurt, obsession, and the question of whether love can survive after trust has cracked. If you like clean, gentle paths to a happy ending, she may not be your author. If you like tension, ache, and a little chaos before the landing, she probably is.

Fields keeps much of her personal history private, which fits the work in a funny way. The books do the talking. What comes through, again and again, is a writer who enjoys pushing her characters to the edge, whether that edge is a college heartbreak, a cold palace, or a bargain with something monstrous, and then seeing what kind of love can survive it.
