Author bio
Elizabeth Bromke writes small-town women's fiction and sweet romance built around family, friendship, old secrets, and the hard work of starting over.
Her stories tend to begin where life has become messy. A relationship has ended, an inherited house needs saving, a family truth has been sitting quietly for too long, or someone has come home unsure whether they still belong there. Bromke gives those characters room to sort things out, usually with help from relatives, neighbors, old friends, and a little bit of romance.
She began publishing novels in 2018, starting with Christmas on Maplewood Mountain. That early Maplewood story set out a pattern that runs through much of her work: a welcoming small-town setting, characters carrying real disappointments, and a belief that a fresh start can come from facing the past rather than avoiding it.
The homes matter in these books.
In the Hickory Grove novels, places such as a former schoolhouse, a farmhouse, an inn, and a Christmas-decorated house become part of each character's next chapter. The Schoolhouse follows a divorced woman returning to her hometown and trying to turn an abandoned building into a bookshop. The Farmhouse centers on a mother rebuilding her life and a neglected inheritance. The houses are never just scenery. They give people a problem to solve, a reason to stay, and often a way to reconnect.
Her Birch Harbor books widen that approach into a family saga. Beginning with House on the Harbor, the series follows the Hannigan sisters on the Lake Huron shore as their mother's estate exposes long-buried questions about their family. Romance is part of the picture, but so are grief, sibling loyalty, local gossip, and the search for a missing father.
Then there are the stand-alone-style community stories. In The Summer Society, old friends gather after a loss and find that decades of shared history still hold a few surprises. The Garden Guild brings together three women trying to survive a rumor-filled town. These books show Bromke's interest in friendships that are tested, repaired, and made stronger by honesty.
Small towns can keep a secret for a long time.
Bromke has also written the Brambleberry Creek novels, a Kentucky-set trilogy about cousins, a family farmhouse, a wine venture, and the discoveries hidden in old letters and diaries. Her Prairie Creek romances lean more directly into clean, contemporary love stories, while the Heirloom Island books bring sisters and new beginnings to a Michigan island near Birch Harbor.
Across the catalog, readers can expect relationship-centered stories rather than high-drama spectacle. The tension usually comes from family history, an uncertain future, financial pressure, a broken engagement, or the courage it takes to ask for a second chance. Her characters are often women at a turning point, and the people around them matter as much as any romance.
Elizabeth lives in the mountains of Arizona with her husband and son. Public author notes also mention their dog, Winnie, along with the quieter pleasures of reading, walks, cooking, and time together at home. It fits the feeling of her fiction: welcoming places, everyday people, and lives that can change when somebody decides to open the door.
