Author bio
Eden Grinshpan grew up in Toronto, and food seems to have been part of her life from the start. She spent summers in Israel with family, and those trips, along with Toronto's wide mix of neighborhood food cultures, helped shape the flavors she still comes back to: tahini, herbs, grilled vegetables, fresh breads, and meals built for sharing.
She has said that as a teenager she was more interested in cooking shows than homework. Food Network was always on, and she started baking for family and friends, which gave that interest a real place to land. Instead of taking a more standard university path, she went to Le Cordon Bleu in London and earned the Grand Diplome in pastry and culinary arts.
That choice set the tone.
After London, Grinshpan traveled widely through Europe, India, Southeast Asia, and Israel. In India, she helped revive a cafe at an orphanage, a project that mixed cooking with community work and showed how food could travel across language and place. She later spent time in Tel Aviv making desserts, then returned to New York to study culinary management and work in kitchens, including a stint at the bakery BabyCakes.
Those years fed directly into her first big screen role, Eden Eats, the travel show she produced and hosted for the Cooking Channel. The show gave her a chance to do what she clearly loves most: meet people, ask questions, and understand a place through what is cooking there. More television followed, including Log On & Eat with Eden Grinshpan, judging work, and her long run as host of Top Chef Canada. Early in that rise, she was also named to Forbes 30 Under 30 in food and wine.
Travel never really left her work.
When her first cookbook, Eating Out Loud, arrived in 2020, it brought that same energy into a home kitchen. Readers tend to like it because the recipes feel bright, open, and actually usable, with Middle Eastern flavors that sound exciting without feeling hard to pull off. Her second book, Tahini Baby, followed in 2025 and leans even further into vegetable-forward cooking, everyday vegetarian meals, and the kind of flexible dishes that let home cooks mix, match, and relax a little.
That is a big part of Grinshpan's appeal. Her food is tied to Israeli and Mediterranean flavors, but it is also shaped by Toronto, by travel, and by a very practical sense of how people really cook at home. She comes back again and again to generous platters, lots of texture, plenty of lemon, yogurt, herbs, and tahini, and meals that are meant to be passed around the table rather than fussed over. Even when a recipe looks impressive, the mood is usually casual.
Now she splits her time between Toronto and New York with her husband, Ido, and their two daughters, Ayv and Romi. Through her books, television work, and Eden Eats platform, she has built a career around the idea that good food can be lively, a little messy, and deeply welcoming. That sense of fun, plus a real respect for the cultures behind the dishes, is what keeps people coming back.
